The Langoliers by Stephen King Review

Review by Adam Pelletier

Stephen King's “The Langoliers” is a science fiction/horror story about accidental time travel through a plane flight. It’s a step away from King’s normal yet abnormal writing, but still includes key pieces that make this story one of his. Ten passengers wake up on their flight to discover that they’re the only ones there, with the other countless passengers and staff, including the pilots, all missing.

I found this book to be just as entertaining as King’s other books, even with the fact that I don’t normally read science fiction novels. It’s full of exciting scenes along with an enthusiastic usage of language throughout. The science fiction part of it doesn’t seem to be too prominent through most of the book, with its exceptions, as King still focuses on the horror side of writing as usual.  Overall, the book is definitely worth reading, but there are better options from Stephen King.

The Song of Achilles Review

Review by Addison Thornton

Madeline Miller's The Song of Achilles is a heart-wrenching mythological fiction novel about the lives of Achilles and Patroclus. As Miller’s first novel, it is beautifully written with many powerful quotes. The novel goes through Achilles’s and Patroclus’s lives from childhood to war and finally death. A beautiful retelling of The Illiad and beyond.

I found this book marvelous because of how encaptivating it is for the reader. You fall in love with the characters and their lives so easily. With plenty of action, romance, and grief, the story Madeline Miller creates will have anyone crying by the end. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Greek mythology or ancient Greece, as the story captivates that time period beautifully.
