Within Stephen Kings’ “Everything’s Eventual” there are 14 short stories. One of which is named “The Death of Jack Hamilton” which is about a gang of criminals in the 1930s who are making their escape. The gang are running from a shootout in Wisconsin and as they’re heading out of state, the cops chase. The cops then start firing upon the gang while flying down the highway, and one of the bullets hits Jack Hamilton, a gang member, in the back. They ride into the next town to search for a doctor that will stay quiet, and eventually find a name and place to go to. They search for a replacement vehicle and end up flagging down a family of three, and take them for a ride. Dropping them off, they then head towards their destination, to save Jack.

King explains at the end of this story about his interests in 1930s-1940s styled stories thanks to his childhood hearing about Bonnie and Clyde. I find his interpretation of this story to be very compelling with the action and very detailed in Jack’s symptoms of being shot. The backstory is plenty and adds so much needed and wanted detail to the story, and has inspired me to read more about this topic.

The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan is the first book of a five book series that is a fantasy-adventure novel based around Greek and Roman mythology. It takes place after the Percy Jackson series and begins with new characters. The main characters, Jason, Piper, and Leo, embark on a journey to settle Gaea and her children before they rise to their full power. Secrets that have been hidden for centuries begin to show and the power of these three demigods are displayed. Relationships are developed between characters after memories are lost and many dangerous foes stand in the path of their journey.

I absolutely adore this series and its such a good beginning to the odyssey the characters are about to embark on. I love how it gives the perspective of all the characters and introduces new characters to the amazing world of Percy Jackson. I love Rick Riordan’s writing style and the way he creates the dynamic between the three main demigods. Though it is not my favorite book in the series, it is definitely an amazing book and high up on my list.
